What is stress?

Stress is the feeling that we get from the pressures of everyday life. Everyone experiences stress to some extent in their lives but often it can be come overwhelming. This usually happens when our resources for coping with it (i.e., time, money, emotions, support, etc.) are depleted or overtaxed.

Stress can have serious effects on our minds and bodies, significantly impacting our health and well-being. It is important to understand what is contributing to your stress and how to deal with it effectively.

Types of Stress

Everyday Stress

These are the normal day-to-day tasks that are proving to be overwhelming. Identifying tasks to eliminate or delegate are the keys to success here.

Life Transitions

Sometimes the most exciting life events can be the most challenging. It could be a new job or promotion, a big move, or a new addition to the family.

Any change comes with learning new skills, navigating new routines, and some second-guessing. Having someone help you see things objectively can ease the transition.

Burn-Out

You may be at the point where your tank is completely empty. No matter what you do, you can’t focus on anything. You are emotionally exhausted, finding it hard to muster up caring and compassion for yourself and the people or work around you.

You feel like nothing is working and you can’t make a difference.

Work / Life Balance

Family and friends complain that they never see you — you’re always working. Maybe you’re interested in dating, but you can’t find time when you’re not working. You’d love to turn your phone off to “unplug”, but you feel as though you’re always on-call for work.

Relationship Issues

When there is conflict or negative energy with someone we care about, that can create a lot of stress in our lives.

How long will it take until my stress is gone?

That’s up to you.

We go at your pace, but it all depends on the time and effort you put into your growth.

Significant change won’t happen overnight, but the sooner you start, the sooner you’ll see improvement.

Most of my clients meet with me once a week. However, we can develop a schedule that works best for you. Consistency is key.

Therapy is a space to explore, learn, and grow.

Is online therapy for stress effective?

Therapy in general is going to be helpful for managing stress. Online therapy is extremely convenient for those with a tight schedule who still want to make therapy a priority, but struggle to find the time.

I find that my telehealth clients tend to keep their appointments more often. There’s less waiting time, no travel time, and much more flexibility when someone gets sick.

As long as you are able to focus during our time together, you will get the same quality therapy you would as if we were in my office face-to-face.

FAQs

  • A 50-55 minute session cost $165. Sessions are paid at the time they occur.

  • No, I do not accept insurance. I would be considered an “out-of-network” provider. I can provide you with a Superbill that you can present to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out of network benefits.

  • A superbill is a document you can provide to your insurance company to seek reimbursement. The document has information they’ll need, including a diagnosis, session code, and all of my professional information they require (ex. NPI, address, etc).

Let me know if you need one to be provided.

  • There are several reasons why I don’t accept insurance.

First, I feel I can provide better care to my clients when my time is spent working clinically vs. administratively.

Second, I opt to maximize client confidentiality, which can be compromised with insurance companies. When your insurance pays for your treatment, they can demand access to records or require a diagnosis in order to pay for or approve ongoing treatment. This information then becomes part of your medical record.

  • Online therapy is completely safe, private, and secure.

During our time together, we will be using a secure video conferencing services that is HIPPA compliant and ensures your privacy.

To ensure your privacy during our sessions, it’s important for you to be in a quiet, private space where you and I can speak freely. Make sure you are mentally present by putting your phone on silent, putting a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door, and consider letting others know you need privacy during that time.

As with any online meeting, make sure you have a reliable internet connection. That way, we are making the most of our time together.

If you are unable to access a private location with reliable internet, you may find in-person therapy to be a better fit. Check out this post about Finding a Therapist who is a good fit for you.

  • Yes, online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. As long as you are able to be mentally present during our time together and in a secure, private location; there is not much difference than if you were to me with me in an actual office.

I would even say online therapy, in many cases, could be more effective than in-person. It is easier for my clients to make and keep appointments without worrying about travel time.
